Bathroom countertop – which material to choose

March 10, 2021aliacetrefli

The countertop will help to make the bathroom truly comfortable and functional. Indeed, such a work surface perfectly copes with its task: you can conveniently place hygiene products on it. As a rule, a frame with hinged shelves is placed under the tabletop. This greatly improves the functionality and convenience of the bathroom.

Despite the obvious advantages of countertops over classic bathroom furnishings, such countertops have become in demand relatively recently. Today, the buyer is faced with a difficult choice of which material to give preference to. Let’s try to understand these issues.

Quartzite bathroom countertops

Artificial stone (for example: quartzite) is in high demand. The quartzite slab for the bathroom combines the beauty of natural stone with excellent performance. Let’s consider them in more detail:

  • Quartzite bathroom countertops are very sturdy. Despite the fact that the strength requirements for bathroom slabs are much lower than for kitchen slabs, nevertheless, we consider this criterion to be a very important advantage.
  • Artificial quartzite stone has minimal porosity. This feature does not allow water to accumulate and be absorbed. Therefore, harmful microorganisms and fungus will not appear on the surface.
  • Finding a quartzite bathroom work surface and creating a unique interior is easy enough. This is facilitated by a large selection of colors and textures.

Natural stone as a material for the production of a work surface also has good performance characteristics. As a rule, granite or marble is used. The first option, granite, is a good countertop material. The characteristics of granite are similar to artificial stone, but its cost is higher.

For connoisseurs of exquisite materials, marble is suitable. In this case, you will have to fork out pretty much both for the purchase of such a surface and for its maintenance. Proper care of your marble countertop will keep it intact for many years. But for this, you should adhere to certain rules: do not spill dyes on it, select suitable detergents. In addition, the porous material absorbs liquid well, so you should wipe the surface from spilled dye as soon as possible and polish the marble from time to time.

To make it easier to make a choice, we take as a criterion such material qualities as strength, beautiful appearance and price. The optimal ratio of such quality characteristics can boast of an artificial stone quartzite. If you can afford to spend more money on bathroom countertops, look for natural granite or marble. But it should be remembered that marble requires special care.

We should also mention the option of a glass work surface. Despite its high performance characteristics, glass cannot withstand heavy loads. And the peculiarities of its processing and installation limit the options for using such surfaces in certain interiors.

If you want to save as much as possible, then the chipboard option is just for you. But remember that you will have to constantly monitor so that no scratches and chips form on such a tabletop. In addition, the service life of chipboard countertops is short.

As you can see, countertops made of natural or artificial stone are the best solution for bathrooms. However, we remain in the opinion that the choice of material should depend on the preferences and desires of the client.
